Laser Treatment for Toenail Fungus (Onychomycosis)
More than 20 million people in the United States are affected by onychomycosis, commonly known as toenail fungus. Once fungus penetrates the nail and nail bed, it can be extremely difficult to eliminate. Traditional topical treatments often produce limited results, and oral antifungal medications may carry potential side effects and are not appropriate for all patients.
Advanced Laser Treatment Option
We are proud to offer an advanced laser treatment for toenail fungus as an effective alternative to traditional therapies. Foot & Ankle Associates is currently the only practice in Northeastern North Carolina providing this innovative laser technology.
The laser delivers gentle, targeted light that passes safely through the nail, reaching the nail bed and nail root where the fungus resides. This technology helps eliminate fungal infection without damaging surrounding tissue.
Our physicians have successfully used this laser treatment in our practice since February 2009, and we have found it to be an excellent option—especially for patients who prefer to avoid oral medications or are unable to take them.
Insurance Coverage
Because laser treatment for toenail fungus is considered cosmetic, most health insurance plans do not cover this service.
We accept:
- Cash
- Major credit cards
- Personal checks
- Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
We also offer an interest-free payment plan through CareCredit for qualified patients.
Treatment Cost and What to Expect
Laser treatment is typically applied to all toenails on both feet, including nails that may not appear infected. Treating all nails helps reduce the risk of reinfection. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and requires no downtime.
- Treatment cost: Up to $600
- Please contact our office to discuss pricing if only one or two toenails are affected.
In some cases, especially with resistant infections or slow nail growth, an additional laser session may be recommended.
- Discounted follow-up treatment (within 6 months): $300
